Co-founder
and co-artistic director of One Yellow Rabbit, Michael began his
theatre career with Ikarus – one of Calgary's first avant-garde
theatre companies. Michael is a writer, director, producer,
and has acted in innumerable productions between 1975 and the present.
Michael
wears many hats. As a member of the One Yellow Rabbit performing
ensemble, he has created many memorable characters in shows including Doing
Leonard Cohen, In
Klezkavania and Somalia
Yellow.
His cabaret performances Yowl and The
Whaler are
legendary. His playwriting for the company includes Naked West, Dreams
of a Drunken Quaker, Lives
of the Saints (with
Andy Curtis), and Alien Bait (written
with Blake Brooker). His book of plays Dreams of a Drunken Quaker
- Two Plays and a Rant was
published by AB Press in 1992. Directing credits for One Yellow Rabbit
include Eugene Ionesco's Exit the King (with
Elise Ménard) and Lives of the Saints.
Recently, Michael has been leading the Shiny Beast/Whip It Out Ensemble
as they prepare for their upcoming tribute to Frank Zappa's art and
music, Zappaphelia (working
title). His most recent performances with One Yellow Rabbit
have included The Baron in In Klezkavania and
Les in Friction (part
of the series Liberators, Occupiers and Population),
which played at the 2005 High Performance Rodeo and toured to Maastricht,
Netherlands and Berlin, Germany.
Michael
is the Founder and Curator of the High Performance Rodeo, One Yellow
Rabbit's annual festival of new and experimental performance and
one of Canada's most important multidisciplinary performance festivals. Selected plays

answers, are instead forced to turn to one another for support.

Synopsis:
The
play consists of three seemingly unrelated parts: 'Blackmail House,'
a pas de deux for male dancers/voices; 'Horse Killer,' a quest fairy
tale about sheep, horses, dung beetles, and a hero named Iceland;
and 'King Scabbard & I,' a free-association word-and-image game
between characters named Flesh and Stump, with an inflatable globe,
a baby carriage, and an eight-candle ritual.
