President — Eugene Stickland
Eugene Stickland was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. After completing his MFA in Theatre at York University (1984), Eugene began his playwriting career in Toronto with the ACT IV Theatre Company, with productions of his plays The Family, Quartet and Darkness On The Edge Of Town. Eugene returned to Regina in 1989, and wrote for film, radio and the stage while teaching at the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College at the University of Regina. Following the première production of Some Assembly Required at playRites '94, Eugene moved to Calgary where he became the Playwright in Residence at Alberta Theatre Projects. Since then ATP has produced his plays Sitting on Paradise, A Guide to Mourning, Midlife, Appetite and All Clear. Closer and Closer Apart, a study of Alzheimer's disease, premiered October, 1999, at Lunchbox Theatre. Some Assembly Required was a finalist for the Governor General's Award in Drama and Excavations, won the Alberta Playwriting Competition and was later produced by Theatre Network.

Past President — Conni Massing
Conni Massing is an award-winning playwright and screenwriter. Recent theatre credits include The Aberhart Summer and Homesick. She is currently working on a commission from the Citadel Theatre, developing a television series for teens called Laughing MAO TV, and working as a story consultant on the documentary series Taking it Off. Conni teaches playwriting at the University of Alberta.

Vice-president South — Jason Patrick Rothery
Jason is a Calgary-based writer, dramaturge, producer and administrator. A graduate of UBC's Creative Writing Program, Jason is the author of Wedgie, Wilson's Leg, the space between us, The Drop, Re:Generation, the Centaur Showcase Award-winning Menace (Montreal Fringe, 2001), and The Generations Project - a collective-creation project developed for ATP’s Playrites Festival (2005). He is the author of the feature film Dead End Days, the head writer and story editor of the weekly podcast Cerealized, and penned the soon-to-be released short film Wank. Jason served as in-house dramaturge for Vancouver's Playwrights Theatre Centre, and was Playwright-in-Residence at Upintheair Theatre Society (Vancouver) and THEATREboom (Calgary). He is the creator and co-producer of the five-year-strong Walking Fish Festival (Vancouver), the co-founder and Head of Development for Rocket Ace Moving Pictures, Inc. (Toronto), and was the co-founder and Festival Director of the 2006 Calgary Fringe Festival. He was the Associate Showcase Producer of PlayWorks Ink (2006, Alberta Playwrights Network), and is currently an Artistic Associate with Urban Curvz Theatre Society. Jason is proud and excited to work for Ghost River Theatre in the capacity of Artistic Producer.

Vice-president North — Scott Sharplin
Scott is a playwright, director, and dramaturge. He co-founded the Carnival of Shrieking Youth theatre festival in 1993, and Sound & Fury Theatre in 2000. He served as Artistic Director of Sound & Fury from 2000-2004. Scott has had his scripts workshopped and/or produced by Lunchbox Theatre, Theatre Network, Workshop West, Theatre Squared, Alberta Playwrights Network, Playwrights Theatre Centre, Theatre BC, The National Theatre School, and Playwrights Workshop Montreal. His One act play Burnt Remains was published in the anthology Staging Alternative Alberta’s (Playwrights Canada Press, 2002), and Purity Test won the 2002 Alberta Playwriting Competition (Full Length Category). Scott enjoys creating small-cast adaptations of Shakespeare plays, some of which have been produced by Free Will Players, The Shakespeare Company, and Sound & Fury Theatre.

Treasurer — Hansine Ullberg
Hansine Ullberg was the Director of Finance for the Calgary Flames from 2003-2004. At the beginning of the recent NHL players' strike, Hansine decided to return to the corporate world. APN provides her with a creative outlet and gives her the opportunity to forge links between corporations and vital charities in the community. Hansine first became involved with APN through organizing the second annual Ales & Tales Fundraiser. In addition to APN, she sits on the board of the Canadian Business Youth Foundation.

Secretary — Gilbert daSilva
Gilbert has been in The Citadel Theatre’s Front of House department for nine years and concurrently the Rental Department for three years.  Gilbert is an alumnus of Workshop West's Playwrights' Garage where he received guidance from senior playwright Vern Thiessen and mentored with Robert Clinton. Gilbert’s writing credits include two plays produced for the Edmonton Fringe Festival, an award winning short film, and a feature length documentary film to be released later this year. He is currently involved in the development of online serialized publishing through Creative Commons-licensed downloads.  Gilbert has a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Alberta.

Member-at-Large — Mike Thompson
Michael is a two-time Honourable Mention recipient for his submissions to the Alberta Playwriting Competition in 2000 and 2001. A Graduate of the University of Alberta, and winner of the Frank Buekert scholarship, he has just finished the Playwrights' Garage, a professional development program with Workshop West Theatre. His radio drama "Sounds Good?" will premiere later this summer on CBC radio one. Mike served two years as secretary, and is looking forward to continuing his work with APN.

Member-at-Large — Gail Hanrahan

Since earning her MFA in Directing from the University of Calgary in 1991, Gail has directed and acted for most companies in Calgary. Her work on many independent productions has been seen from Victoria to Toronto, with several stops along the way. Gail has also appeared in several television, film and radio projects in both official languages. Gail has served as Assistant Professor in the Theatre and Dramatic Arts Department of the University of Lethbridge since the summer of 2005.

Member-at-Large — Karmyn Turner

While in full time studies to complete a Bachelors of Commerce Degree, Karmyn Turner works in Treasury at ENMAX Corporation. While living in the NWT for a two-year period, Karmyn was an active member of the Hay River Fire Department and the Coordinator for the Safe Kids Program. Karmyn first became aware of the Alberta Playwrights Network during the 2004 Playworks Ink and continued to be involved through the Ales and Tales fundraiser.  Enjoying her volunteer work prompted her to accept an invitation from the Board to take a more active involvement with APN.

Executive Director — Johanne Deleeuw
Johanne has been working in professional theatre in Calgary since 1985, when she graduated from the U of C Drama Department.  She has worked as a Stage Manager, Production Manager, Director and Dramaturge.  She was the Artistic Director of Lunchbox Theatre from 1999 to 2005, where she coordinated and dramaturged The Petro-Canada Stage One Plays. a national new play development program.  She has worked with many, many of Alberta's (and Canada's) outstanding playwrights.  Johanne has directed plays for Lunchbox Theatre, Destiny Theatre, The Actor's Conspiracy, Shakespeare In The Park, Ground Zero Theatre, Blacklist Theatre, Alberta Theatre Projects and Vertigo Theatre.

Administrator — Val Lieske
Val is the co-founder and Artistic Director of Fire Exit Theatre as well as the Administrator for the Alberta Playwrights’ Network. She has written two one-act plays Coffee Talk and Gods Attention. Val’s first book Crossroads Cafe’ – Break Free From The Daily Ground sat on the Calgary Herald’s bestselling list for numerous weeks. Her love of theatre encompasses directing, acting, writing, producing and stage managing. Acting credits include A Man Called Peter and Nativity on the Square. Val also works as the Director of Theatre Arts with Centre Street Church and as seasonal instructor with Rosebud School of the Arts.
