Mandate: The Alberta Playwrights’ Network exists to nurture Alberta playwrights and provide support for the development of their plays. APN seeks to increase awareness of Alberta playwrights and plays in the community at large; to help Alberta plays reach their full potential; to promote Alberta playwrights and plays to the theatre community locally, nationally and internationally; to build and foster a community of playwrights; to support and encourage an infinite range of playwrights’ voices. APN incorporated as a society in 1985, but there has been a playwrights group in Alberta for over 25 years. History: Alberta Playwrights' Network is a provincial organization of emerging and established playwrights and supporters of playwrighting. The society was incorporated in 1985, but there has been a playwrights group in Alberta for over 25 years. Our members come from across the province, in both rural and urban communities, with the largest portion of our membership residing in Calgary and Edmonton. With representatives in both Calgary and Edmonton, playwrighting circles in both cities and portable programs available to anyone in the province, we strive to be a truly province-wide organization. We believe that APN enriches the lives and increases the opportunities of all Albertans. APN provides one-on-one dramaturgical support, play development workshops with professional actors and directors, professional development classes, playwriting circles and forums, public new play readings, playwriting competitions and an annual theatre conference. We also partner with a variety of Alberta theatre companies and organizations to provide playwriting activites and programs. APN supports and encourages Alberta playwrights and playwriting on the local, national and international levels.
